What's Your Secret Sauce?
My Unique Human Capital:
1. Extreme and authentic enthusiasm for life. I've always been a morning person because I genuinely love waking up and seeing the sun and starting a new day. Every day is a new chance to meet people, learn something, and improve yourself. This mindset makes me constantly excited about new things that come my way and draws people in. People tend to trust me and my decisions because they can see that I'm not faking anything and everything I say and do is because I love being there and doing whatever it is I'm doing.
2. Straightforward and trustworthy. I am known among all of my friends as the one who will say it as it is. I don't see a point in wasting someone time by beating around the bush. If I have an issue with someone or what they've done, I will bring it up and discuss what I'm feeling until the issue is resolved. Since I'm so straightforward about things, people can take what I say and know with confidence that it's true and I mean it.
3. Time management skills. I grew up with parents who were late to almost everything. This has had an opposite effect on me and has made me hyperaware of being on-time. I keep everything in my planner and, with the exception of unforeseeable issues, am almost never late to anything. Since I am so organized about my commitments, people are confident that if I say I will be somewhere or will do something that it will happen as I promised.
4. Natural leader and presenter. I'm a very loud and outgoing person. This coupled with the other qualities above make me a natural leader. I would much rather take charge of a situation so it gets done on time and correctly than let whoever is trying to be in charge continue to not do well. While I am always cautious not to "step on toes" when taking charge, my straightforward personality will come into play if I believe someone isn't doing well and I have other ideas on how to improve things. I love public speaking and giving presentations so speaking in front of those I'm working with is not an issue.
5. Empathetic. I've had extensive training and experience counseling my peers through an organization I am a part of. Since I've had so much practice seeing things from other people's point of view I am very good at listening and understanding. People tend to open up to me unprompted because I always listen closely to the issues of those around me and can give them either a space to vent or actual advice. I never invalidate someone's feelings even if I disagree or can't relate because I know this doesn't ever help someone. I even stop and talk to strangers if they're visibly upset in public just because you never know when someone might need to talk. This quality makes people want to come to me with issues that they may be embarrassed to talk about with other people and creates a different and unique relationship between me and those around me.

All of my friends really addressed things that I pride myself on. There weren't any answers that were very surprising to me. They used a lot of the same words and adjectives that I used to describe myself in my list to describe me, even though they had not seen the list I made for myself. I think this shows that I'm very solid in my values and skills.

You did a great job to explain in detail what you thought your human capital is. You put a lot more detail into it than I did, which is very good. I also think you did a good job conducting your interviews. The people I interviewed also said things that I thought about myself and it seems you were not surprised by their responses either.
ReplyDeleteCharlotte,
ReplyDeleteI feel like I got to know you from reading your post, so you did the assignment really well. You were super descriptive in each of your human capital traits as well. I liked what your friends had to say about you too
