Idea Napkin No. 1

1) I am very outgoing and love spending time with others. This is something that I identify myself with most. I use my people skills constantly and try to learn new ways to meet and learn from those around me. As much as I enjoy talking, I also love to listen to people's stories and learn about their lives. You can see people get really excited when you're listening and engaging with stories they're telling and learning about them. I want to go into Management consulting because I like the combination of analytical work you do when you solve problems for a company but you get to engage and travel and work with new people all the time. If I were to start my business I think it would be more of a side business I run since it has a relatively small market of buyers.
2) I'm offering solar powered fans that attach to already placed poles (signs, stop lights, street lamps, etc.) around college campuses so that students are more inclined to walk to class, which is a healthier option than busses or scooters, without getting hot and sweaty and gross by the time they arrive.
3) My product is aimed for college students, faculty, and administrators who regularly need to travel around a large campus during the heat of the day. This demographic is those who live and work at a University, particularly in the Southeast. My actual customers would be the Universities themselves who would purchase and install this product on their campuses to be used by the target consumers.
4) Universities are in constant competition with each other to get the best and brightest students and professors. They gain this by not only challenging courses and good rankings, but with a campus students and professors would actually enjoy being at. This is a huge factor for a lot of people's college decision. By adding this convenience to their campus, universities would have one more factor that would make students and faculty want to come to their campus.
5) What I offer is different because it's a simple convenience that everybody wants but nobody has. This isn't a fancy high tech new invention that will revolutionize college campuses. It's a basic issue that has an easy fix. By providing the solution to this issue, my product markets itself. Additionally, by making it solar powered universities don't have to be concerned for their utility bills, providing power to them, or any impacts on the environment.

I think most of the aspects of my product fit together very nicely. The only concern I have is that the people who would benefit and enjoy it the most are not the one's going out and purchasing it. I've interviewed students and faculty who would all like to have the fans on campus, however, I have not talked with whoever would be in charge of making the decision to buy the fans for campus. This disconnect could prove to be an issue as UF may decide they don't care if students walk or sweat or not even if the students want the fans.

  1. I think you did a good job in your conclusion breaking down the fact that many people will love your idea. The only problem is that they are not the ones purchasing the fans. It is good that you identified one of the barriers to getting sales for your product and that you can now work to solve that problem. The information you give is detailed and well thought out.

  2. Overall great job explaining who you are, what your offering and who your customers are. I do agree that even though students or faculty might want this feature on campus, it does not matter because it is the schools decision in the end. If they deem it unnecessary there is not much you can do. Good job explain your concerns with your product.
